Anisotropic Behaviour of Extruded Short Carbon Fibre Reinforced PEEK Under Static and Fatigue Loading

نویسندگان

چکیده

The influence of fibre orientation on an extruded short carbon PEEK composite, reinforced with 30% weight fraction fibres, was investigated. Specimens were obtained from plates along directions transverse and parallel to the extrusion flow different types spatial arrangements observed. Prior fatigue testing elastic modulus each specimen measured specimens grouped into homogeneous families, low high modulus. Each family exhibited distinct strength, associated progressive damage patterns failure mechanisms. With increasing alignment fibres loading axis, a noticeable improvement strength could be observed, whereas when mostly perpendicular, properties even lower than those unreinforced PEEK. Overall, results suggest that products may exhibit heterogeneous microstructure wide range properties, making definition design allowables critical task.

Fatigue behaviour of short fibre reinforced polyamide: morphological and numerical analysis of fibre orientation effects

The fatigue behaviour of injection moulded short fibre reinforced polymers depends upon fibre orientation, as shown in experiments conducted with notched specimens injected through different injection gates. The different fatigue behaviour is related to the different local elastic properties, as determined by the different fibre orientation patterns, resulting into different strain distribution...

Fibre Orientation at Notches and Fatigue Behaviour of Short Fibre Reinforced Polyamide

Fatigue strength of injection moulded short fibre reinforced polymer components depends upon fibre orientation with reference to the acting stresses. For the case of a short glass fibre reinforced (SGFR) polyamide 6, this dependence was expressed through a relationship derived from the Tsai-Hill criterion [1], with the strong assumption that fibres were parallel to each other. This relationship...

Wear of ceramic-on-carbon fibre reinforced PEEK hip replacements

Total hip replacement has been a successful surgical intervention for many years. However, concerns regarding UHMWPE wear particle induced osteolysis [1], have led to alternative bearing materials to be sought. Carbon-fibre reinforced poly-ether-ether-ketone (CFR-PEEK) is a fibre-reinforced polymer which has shown reduced wear in hip and knee configurations compared with conventional polyethyle...

Static and fatigue behaviour of glass-®bre-reinforced polypropylene composites

This paper is concerned with fatigue of polypropylene/glass-®bre thermoplastic composites produced from a bidirectional woven cloth mixture of E glass ®bres and polypropylene ®bres. The latter becomes the matrix after the application of heat and pressure. This composite was manufactured with a ®bre volume fraction Vf of 0.338. The e€ect of layer design on the static and fatigue performance was ...

Fretting Fatigue Behaviour of Pin-Loaded Thermoset Carbon-Fibre-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) Straps

This paper focuses on the fretting fatigue behaviour of pin-loaded carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) straps studied as models for rigging systems in sailing yachts, for suspenders of arch bridges and for pendent cables in cranes. Eight straps were subjected to an ultimate tensile strength test. In total, 26 straps were subjected to a fretting fatigue test, of which ten did not fail. An S–N...
